Professor of English Language
Martha Scherr is a Professor of English Language. Originally from West Virginia, USA, Martha graduated with a double major in Philosophy and Political Science from H. Sofie Newcomb College of Tulane University in New Orleans, LA USA. She was the recipient of the unique Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, during which she combined her passion for music and solo traveling in exploring “The Rise and Impact of American Country Music Abroad” in Asia and Western Europe. In her professional career, she went on to be the Assistant to the Managing Director/Owner of Paox International Import-Export, based in Rome, Italy. Her responsibilities included communicating in English with international suppliers regarding the firm's original samples and production and participating in European trade fairs. She then proceeded to become an English Language Consultant, and has continued coaching top Italian managers and their staff, translating texts from Italian into English, and teaching Business English at international universities. A particularly meaningful project was her Italian-English translation of the book, The Ghetto Reveals Rome by Luca Fiorentino, published in 2005. During her latest trip to the Maldives in January 2024, she fulfilled an exhilarating bucket list wish: snorkeling with giant whale sharks.
